    driving fast does …
driving fast does not = more gas… its all in the RPMs… in other words, its how FAST you get from one speed to a higher speed… aggressive ACCELERATION is what sucks up gas, its not going fast because most cars can easily stay around the 2800-3300 RPM range going anywhere from 50-70… stop accelerating and braking like you are in a GT cup race thats it

Where on earth did you get that information? Let me guess, you just made up numbers and presented them as fact.

“its not rocket science, its been proven over scores of years.”

Wrong. It has been thought and perpetuated for scores of years that faster driving = more fuel consumption per mile. It isn’t true.

Vehicles are not universally designed to achieve maximum economy at 56mph. All are different, and some get better economy at higher speeds.

  8. juzzlookin Said,

    Get a new computer …
Get a new computer or work it out for yourself. 99% of cars/vehicles wil be most fuel efficient at roughly 56 mph, its not rocket science, its been proven over scores of years. Fuel compsumption is very dependant on driving habits and traffic, simple computes don’t take this into account. Check your fuel bills against actual milage, thats the best way, and average them out over the year.

300K miles$4.gal different mpg you know who you are? 55=$21,818 50=$24K 40=$30k 30=$40K 20=$60K 15=$80K 10=$120K Ask yourself do you have the correct vehicle for the job? Can you freight tools or can your company offer you space on a truck if you request. I ask b/c I see empty pu trucks commuting to work they rarely have anything in the bed pu truck gets 10-25mpg. Hybrid car gets 50 mpg easy it isn’t hard to do the math only you can evaluate your ride. These are safe cars why don’t you save?

1 Thing though ! It is not true that modern cars don’t need to be warmed up, every gas powerd car needs to warm up to be safe to drive in cold weather, it’ll actually increas the life of the engine up to 10% if you live in Canada or somewhere where it’s cold most of the time ;-)

“the faster you drive the more gas you use.”

Actually this isn’t true. I have an onboard computer that registers 17mpg at 30 mph, 22 mpg at 60, and 28mpg at 80. Some vehicles are more efficient at higher speeds.

Thank you very much for sharing such helpful tips. I learned a few things and it was a good reminder on the things I did know. I’ve been known to have a heavy foot while driving. I no longer do, now I hit the cruise and take my time. One good thing out of the high prices.
I am going to pass this great information on, by posting it on my website SaveMoneyWithLauraDotCom I wasn’t sure if I could put a link so I wrote it out.
    Thanks again!

Yeah, your smart. I drive a 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback DX (not mods other than K&N). I get about roughly 35-40MPG. It is pointless to buy a new hybrid where as the car itself will cost a fortune + higher insurance payments. Our cars are super efficient and reliable. Good job and glad to see sensable people out there. Thumbs Up

  22. danharley60 Said,

Yeah that will be cool! Is it a hybrid diesel? My guess though is a metro is still cheaper and while it may have more emmissions than the TDI, it could be revamped nowadays in order to reduce it. Just sad how the government won’t make another metro for a cheap price.
